May 31 - Consuming Passions

After the second theory exam, in the lab on 5/21, when working on recordings -- Michael referred to the "Eaten by Bears" Elisha story, so here it is: orchestrated, a dead-ringer (so to speak) for Animal Farm, Op. 76: Bears, based on three Bela Bartokian beasties.

Elijah Rock, Op. 71: XVIII. As (Bowls and Bears)

Also begin the orchestration of

XIX. Moab (Jehoshaphat and Jorem) before making moves towards Moraga --

down 80 towards a beam-up-or-down Sulfur Springs Sentinel smoketrail near Cordelia and

an exceedingly even-windier-than-normal 680 corridor --

against the prow of Long Barn and

sentient stelae.

By the time the Pleasant Hill Road exit is reached, there's fog ahead in Orinda, coursing across to Las Trampas Ridge, just beyond

St. Mary's. But it's time for a chilly walk, anyway, on the Lafayette-Moraga Trail

(parking at Del Monte and Del Rio)

from St. Mary's Garden with views to the clouds

northwest and

southeast (over the Gudde Ridge), to the crossing of

Moraga Road,

returning past street-wise Seussian allusions

and illusions of Southern California

construction,

and vision,

A retreat is made over Rheem Hill to DVC to finish the orchestration of XIX. Moab and record it, plus

XVII. You (Elijah and Elisha). Home late, nothing to be done, as the day has been devoured, swept up.

May 30 - It's All a Mystery

Finish the orchestration of Elijah Rock: XVI. Send (Ahaziah and Elijah) and a bit of Journal work before heading out to the

Briones-to-Mt.-Diablo Trail, east from

Larkey Park,

past the Lindsay Wildlife Museum and

opulent palms behind barbed wire fences,

to the path's intersection with the Contra-Costa Canal and Geary Boulevard, thus completing a semester's succession of strolls connecting St. Mary's and Diablo Valley Colleges. Ta-da.

Return past several snarlers

safely ensconced,

EBMUD pipes and

pines, in time to catch the

evening light on

Acalanes Ridge --

eucalypti, air-conditioners, and fences in the foreground --

palms, cypresses, and

cars waiting -- then to DVC to record Tritone Orchestra versions of

Elijah Rock, Op. 71

XII. King (Benhadad and Ahab)

and

XVI. Send (Ahaziah and Elijah)

Home again, orchestrating XVII. You (Elijah and Elisha).

May 29 - Sun Showers

Happy Birthday, from California to Wisconsin across the miles and the Great Divide!

Crystal Series: III. Crystal Images

Day at home (Harriet out on a job), finishing the orchestration of Elijah Rock: XII. King (Benhadad and Ahab) and then roaring through same for

XIII. Still (Ahab and a Member of a Group of Prophets)
XIV. Let (Ahab and Naboth)
XV. Jehoshaphat (Call and Chronology)

mostly simply text underlay, since pieces are recaps of I., II., and III., plus first page of XVI. Send (Ahaziah and Elijah), thus ending First Part and beginning Second Part.

Off in the halflight of Lagoon Valley and

Mountains to

the Berkeley wilds of Chamber Arts

for a recap of Ed Knight's songs (from Cary et al)

with the composer in attendance and

awards from Harriet bestowed on all.

Home, with a second page of XVI. orchestrated.

May 28 - Wolf Tone Grades

Much of the warm day given over to finishing up the semester sums (some with difference tones) for the Music History class, as Harriet is out at a job and a rehearsal,

then write the complete orchestration (9 pages) for Elijah Rock: XII. King (Benhadad and Ahab), with a little help from fellow-travellers Felix Mendelssohn (He Watching Over Israel), Richard Wagner (the Magic Fire Music also utilized for Samson and Delilah: VII. Daughter), Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar: Heaven on their Minds), David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust), and the Police (Synchronicity I).
